Mick and Linda Jones, who retired to Spain 14 years ago, have moved back to the UK to start a new life on their old stamping ground in the West Midlands.
The couple enjoyed the sunshine and coastal life in Estepona, about a half-an-hour drive from Marbella, but when the pandemic came, they really felt the distance that lay between themselves and their children and grandchildren in the UK. Now, a few years later, they are enjoying life in their new property at Lucas Gardens in Shirley, near Solihull – with grandchildren all just an easy drive from their home.
Mick says: “We wanted to come back to our roots, and life is good. We see the family every week and we see the grandkids at least a couple of times a week.”
“Just to be able to pop in the car and visit the children now is great", added Linda.
When they began their search, they looked at some older properties. Their budget was £350,000 and they found that pre-owned homes of the size they wanted were coming in at around £330,000, but Mick said: “With work needing doing on them and decorating to bring them to our standard, the added costs meant they exceeded the limit we had in mind.”
So, they decided that a new-build home would work better for them, with all the costs within the final price and no work to carry out after moving in.
Linda said: “We didn’t have to decorate or do the garden, and we could choose the flooring and the kitchen units, and it was lovely."

A first-class customer experience
Throughout the process, they were kept well informed by sales advisor Julie and, after moving in, they were impressed with the service from site manager Liam.

It has been a compete fresh start for the couple after they sold their furniture, household items and Spanish property for the move, buying everything for their new home from scratch – but they have no regrets.
Linda says: "We have plenty of space. The bedrooms are good, we’ve got an en suite and a lounge with double patio doors, a nice, fitted kitchen that’s open plan, and the grandchildren love the garden.”
"We go out for meals with the family, and we’ve been ten pin bowling with the grandchildren, and we go on nice walks with them and babysitting with them and it’s part of coming back into the family properly again. It’s lovely. We made the right decision.”
